Historical information

On December 17th, 1944 General Hasbrouck, Commander of the 7th Armoured Division established his HQ in Vielsalm in order to stop in the sector Vielsalm - St Vith - Gouvy the German advance of 6. Panzer Division under the command of Sepp Dietrich. This action prepared the successful Allied counteroffensive.


82nd Airborne Division commemorative plate (Sart)

The British tank commemorates the liberation of Walcheren Island on November 1st, 1944. This was Corporal HIMSWORTHs’ tank, it was the second tank to land on Walcheren peninsula.

Location information

The (US) Sherman tank is located in Vielsalm (Belgium) near the swimming pool.

The other Sherman (British) tank is located in Westkapelle on Walcheren peninsula (Holland) where there is also a WW2 museum dedicated to the honour of the Allied WW2 veterans.

The 508th infantry regiment of the 82nd Airborne commemorative plate is located in Sart between Baraque Fraiture and Vielsalm.
