Historical information

At La Gleize on December 18 1944 the SS offensive of Joachim Peiper lead to the capture of La Gleize, the target was "La Meuse" river via Werbomont village. But US paratroops assisted with tanks blocked Germans at La Gleize. On December 22 1944 the Luftwaffe was not able to bring effective supply as a result remnants of the German "Kampfgruppe Peiper" (part of the 6. PanzerArmee) destroyed their own tanks, crossed the "Ambleve" and the "Salm" rivers in order to join their unit, the 1. SS Panzer located in Wanne. Those units were then engaged in the South of Bastogne. The Königstiger presented in front of the museum was exchanged for the price of a cognac bottle to iron resellers in order to avoid its demolition in 1945. The Königstiger presented here has been left abandonned by its tank crew due to fuel shortage. The official website of the museum stands here
