Historical information

The "National Museum of Military History" (NMMH) emerged from the "Diekirch Historical Museum (opened in 1984), which was primarily dedicated to the "Battle of the Bulge" in Luxembourg in winter 1944-45.The key topic of the museum remains the historical representation of the military operations in the Ardennes from the American, German and Civilian point of view. The museum's core-piece is the detailed reconstruction of the night-time crossing of the river Sûre (Sauer) at Diekirch on January 18th, 1945 by soldiers of the 5th US Infantry division. A second part of the museum is dedicated to the history of Luxembourg's own armed forces from the creation of Luxembourg as a state of the present day. The official website of the museum stands here
